If you are straightening your own hair with a flat iron or other heated appliance, and you notice little hairs sticking up when you get done, this may be a sign of hair damage.
The hairs sticking up are broken hairs. They used to be longer, but as a result of dryness or overusing heated appliances, they are now damaged.
As a short-term fix for this problem, I recommend using a pomade, such as Aveda's Control Paste to lay these unruly hairs down.
To permanently correct this problem:
- Deep condition your hair at least once a week,
- Do not use your heated appliance more than once a week.
- Avoid heating your appliances up more than 400 degrees.
- Also, apply a few drops of jojoba oil to your hair each night to keep it moisturized.
- Get your hair trimmed regularly (about every 6 - 8 weeks.)
