"By 2004, Black women were the fastest group of women being diagnosed with eating disorders. Many of us are dangerously overweight, and unprecedented numbers are turning to elective cosmetic surgery to "fix" what we consider unsightly. The majority of us chemically straighten our hair, spending $12 billion annually to transform the structure of our tresses out of "necessity rather than choice."
